Sustainability

Intent

At Kingsbury Green Primary School, sustainability is at the heart of our vision and values. Guided by ambition, character and empathy, we aim to nurture pupils who are not only successful learners but also compassionate, responsible citizens. Our intent is to empower children to understand their role in protecting the environment and to develop the confidence and determination to make a positive difference. We strive to instil a strong sense of global responsibility, ensuring pupils see themselves as active contributors to a more sustainable, fair and hopeful world.

Implementation

Sustainability is embedded across our curriculum and wider school life. Pupils engage in a range of meaningful, real-world experiences, from leading initiatives as Eco-Champions to participating in whole-school activities such as recycling, litter-picking and waste reduction. Children take part in projects that develop both awareness and action, including designing and selling reusable products, campaigning for environmental change and sharing their ideas within the community. Our international partnerships further enrich this work, enabling pupils to collaborate globally and explore climate change and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Hands-on experiences such as growing food, reusing materials and leading environmental campaigns ensure that learning is practical, engaging and relevant.

Impact

As a result, pupils develop a deep understanding of sustainability alongside the skills and values needed to take meaningful action. They demonstrate ambition in creating change, strong character through leadership and teamwork, and empathy for their community and the wider world. Children leave Kingsbury Green as confident, informed and proactive individuals who are equipped to make responsible choices and contribute positively to society. Our approach ensures that pupils are not only prepared for their future, but are inspired and empowered to help shape it.

International Education

At Kingsbury Green Primary School, we believe every child deserves an education that prepares them to thrive in a diverse, interconnected and rapidly changing world.International education is an integral part of our curriculum and school ethos. It reflects our commitment to developing ambitious, compassionate and socially responsible young people who understand that they can make a positive difference within their local community and beyond.

Our international work is rooted in our core values of Ambition, Character and Empathy. These values shape the relationships we build, the curriculum we teach and the opportunities we provide for our pupils. They also reflect our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring every child develops a strong sense of identity while learning to value the experiences and perspectives of others.

As a school serving the richly diverse community of Brent, we recognise that international education begins within our own classrooms. Our pupils bring a wealth of languages, cultures, traditions and experiences which enrich our learning community every day. By celebrating this diversity and connecting with schools across the world, we help children understand that difference should be celebrated and that everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Through meaningful international partnerships, collaborative enquiry and shared action, pupils learn not only about global issues but alongside children who experience them from different perspectives. These authentic relationships encourage curiosity, challenge stereotypes and develop the knowledge, skills and values required to become active global citizens.

International education at Kingsbury Green Primary School is not an additional initiative; it is one of the ways we prepare our children to build a fairer, greener and more inclusive future.
